Description

The Oracle of Change: How to Consult the I Ching by Alfred Douglas
Pre-loved paperback, Penguin Books 1983, in good condition, 239pp

The originof the I Ching is lost but it has existed in some form for over 4,000 years, and in its philosophy reflects both major Chinese religions: Taoism and Confucianism. It is both a source of philosophical wisdom and it is a practical oracle. It can throw light on the workings of the unconscious and the inner self. This book is divided into two parts. The first gives a brief history of the Oracle of Change. The Second gives the basic text as it appeared in the 1715 edition, newly translated from Ancient Chinese.

Alfred Douglas was born in Yorkshire, England in 1942. From a very young age, he was interested in the folklore, the European magical tradition, esoteric symbolism, and the work of Carl Jung. Douglas studied with Madeline Montalban, who was a student of Aleister Crowley in the 1930s.
